A warm welcome to the Acadian Railway, an excursion
railway offering some wonderful tours throughout northeastern New
York State, Massachusetts, Quebec and the Maritimes and Maine, including
the incredibly beautiful North Woods.
The Acadian is a ten-car deluxe passenger train
featuring vista dome, parlour car, observation car and two dining
cars, one of them a dome.
Tours will be offered from early June to mid-September,
followed by special tours designed to view the New England foliage
from mid-September through late October.
Acadian Railway will also operate Lake Champlain
service, a deluxe section of private cars that will travel behind
Amtrak's Adirondack service,
and will leave Penn Station for Montreal every Tuesday and Friday,
leaving Montreal for Penn Station every Thursday and Sunday. The
Lake Champlain service will offer gourmet, multi-course meals served
in the parlour car as well as other luxury amenities.
Other tours provided by Acadian Railway include:
North Woods Tours, including 8 and 9 day
tours of the rugged Maine coast, Bar Harbor, and Nova Scotia, with
the option of hooking up with the Amtrak Downeaster
or Acela Express and continuing on down the New England and mid-Atlantic
coast.
Rail Cruise Tours, 6 to 12 day tours of
Montreal, Maine and the Maritimes including rail and cruise voyages
along the New England coast and the St. Lawrence River.
Atlantic Maritime Tours are 5 to 10 day
tours throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia,
with an option to hook up with VIA Rail's Ocean overnight train
to Montreal.
The Short Tours are 3 day getaways from
New York to Montreal, featuring the Lake Champlain service northbound
and an Air Canada return flight.
For many reasons, this new excursion rail service
is very exciting, not the least of which is that it will bring visitors
into a remote and beautiful region of Maine, the North Woods, while
having significantly less of an impact than either automobile or
bus travel would have.
