Big Bear Lake Cabin Made From Train Car

Big Bear Lake, California, has long been known as a peaceful retreat from Southern California's bustling communities. It offers a relaxing blend of small-town charm and a plethora of outdoor activities. But Big Bear Lake has a new attraction, and it is delighting both families and train enthusiasts.

Lakeview Junction is much like many log cabins in this mountain retreat. Boasting a fireplace, expansive deck, outdoor hot tub under the stars, and hardwood floors, it is typical of many of the cozy cabins offered as vacation rentals in the area. This cabin, however, offers guests something a bit different - a chance to sleep, and cook in an original train car.

Although the complete history of the cabin is unknown, guests enjoy speculating about its origins. The cabin has one bedroom, a kitchen, and a half bathroom made from the train car. It also contains two additional bedrooms, living room, dining area and bathroom that are not part of the train but blend nicely, many of these rooms having hardwood floors, walls, and ceiling. In fact, the train car is completely invisible from outside the home.

The theme continues throughout the cabin. An antique sign in the bathroom warns not to "flush while the train is in the station" and the living room contains a vast assortment of movies all containing a train theme - from Thomas the Tank Engine to Murder on the Orient Express. The décor is stylish and resonates in every room.

"We wanted to respect the history and uniqueness of the cabin while ensuring that it offers a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere with all of the modern amenities," owner Mike Kilgore shared. "This cabin comes complete with a story to tell, while helping guests to create their own new memories, further enhancing its appeal." Flipping through the guest book, it is easy to see that it has been successful.

Lakeview Junction has something for everyone. From a closet brimming with games for all ages and a wood-burning fireplace, to a washer & dryer and cable television, it offers a wonderful retreat for an evening or an entire week. Everyone in the family will enjoy its charm and children will want to return again and again.

Lakeview Junction rents for $165 to $195/night, with slightly higher rates on holidays. It has three bedrooms and sleeps six.
