Traveling Tips

If you will be sleeping overnight on the train, in the coach section, you will be given a small pillow, similar to those available on airplanes. However, you will not be given a blanket. I have never experienced a cold, or even chilly, train and am usually comfortable wearing a sweater or light jacket while sleeping in coach. However, some travelers may find it difficult to sleep unless they are "covered." In that case you have a few options. As I said, the train maintains a moderate temperature, so if you do want to be covered while sleeping, bring along a sheet, which will not take up much room in your luggage. If you do feel that you need a blanket, you can purchase an Amtrak blanket onboard. Costing only $7.00, these blankets are a great deal, and always sell out quickly, so if you plan on buying one, do it upon boarding. The blanket is warm, but thin and you will be able to bring it on your future trips.
